National College Challenge

At the Auckland Hotel & Chefs Training School we have always been proactive in involving our students in culinary competitions. As a student depending on the time of year you will have an opportunity to gain valuable experience in the Auckland regional and national culinary competition.  

As a supporter of Secondary School Career Pathways we realised that school students did not have an opportunity to utilise their skills in a competition format nationally. With the standard of education and support in the secondary school arena at such a high level we decided to fix this situation and let young students show the industry what they are made of. 

The AHCTS College Challenge is a national competition open to all Food technology secondary school students in New Zealand. It takes place every year at the professional hospitality industry National Culinary Fair run by the Restaurant Association of New Zealand (RANZ). 

The winner of this competition receives a scholarship at the Auckland Hotel & Chefs training school.

 The winner of the College Challenge 2009 is KORBN ALEXANDER from OKAIHAU COLLEGE and 2nd prize goes to DANIEL LISTER from LONG BAY COLLEGE who received a set of knives donated from Roy Holmes (Chef Shop).
